Fellow Earthlings' Wildlife Center is a privately licensed (CA Fish and Game, U.S.D.A., Fish and Wildlife Service), 501(C)3 non-profit facility that specializes in caring for meerkats. The animals we provide a permanent home for come to us from accredited zoological parks.
Meerkats are placed here for a variety of reasons: The animals may be orphaned, injured, sick, old, or the previous facility may simply be out of room and can no longer care for them. You and your guests can visit our Center and hand-feed the meerkats through our "Adopt" program.
Fellow Earthlings' Wildlife Center is proud to be partnered with Animal Planet on their hit series Meerkat Manor. Our Director, Pam Bennett-Wallberg, is the publicity spokesperson for the series and, as a result, the meerkats and Pam have been featured on The Today Show, 20/20, NBC News, MSN, and Animal Planet's Ms. Adventure.
Articles about the Center have appeared in newspapers and publications around the country, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Herald, USA Today, and TV Guide.
Fellow Earthlings' is often used as a film and interview site due to its unique ambiance and oasis-like grounds. We were honored to be featured in two documentary films: National Geographic's Meerkat Madness and Animal Planet's The Power of Play. Additionally, the National Geographic Magazine asked Pam Bennett-Wallberg to help with their September 2002 issue cover story which featured meerkats.
One of the Center's most notable achievements occurred in 1992 when Pam Bennett-Wallberg was chosen by Disney Studios to be their consultant for the character of Timon in the movie The Lion King. Pam worked side by side with the Disney animators as they drew the sassy, cheeky character that became the much-loved Timon. It was one of Fellow Earthlings' meerkats that was the inspiration for this endearing Disney character.
We continue in our unwavering mission to provide the meerkats with the very best care and highest quality of life possible. By allowing visitors to interact with the meerkats, we hope to bring joy, compassion and understanding to the hearts of our guests, and help foster a deep respect for the wild and wonderful creatures that grace our planet earth.
Please note: While meerkats are adorable and captivating, they do not make good pets. Surprisingly, meerkats are one of the most strictly regulated animals in the world. They are illegal to own without the proper licenses and permits.
